Abstract

The significance of leadership at Islamic boarding schools cannot be overstated, as the success or failure of such institutions hinges upon the leadership exhibited by a kiai. The kiai holds the leadership power in Islamic boarding schools, and the presence of a kiai is essential for the functioning of such schools. The leadership of Islamic boarding schools is crucial and has a significant impact. As a result, the position of a kiai is inherently esteemed in the development of Islamic boarding schools. To cultivate inspiring leaders, it is essential to establish a dynamic learning community framework. This article will explore the concept of leadership in Islamic boarding schools, the many leadership styles that are present in these institutions, and the specific functions and responsibilities of a kiai. This study employs a library research methodology, drawing information from multiple sources in the form of books. The research findings indicate that the success or failure of Islamic boarding school institutions is contingent upon the leadership style that is implemented. It is important to acknowledge that while all members participate in activities, leadership remains a crucial role in determining effectiveness and efficiency. In addition, the vision and mission also have a significant impact and the components are interconnected. The standards employed in this context are specifically tailored to Islamic law and encompass the following elements: 1) adherence to ethical principles aligned with the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, 2) objective leadership, 3) leaders with a strong reputation for credibility, and 4) leaders who consistently demonstrate responsiveness.
